Once again it is time for the VO-67 Squadron to gather together to celebrate past times and renew old friendships. Many members will attend this fourth reunion, of our brotherhood, for the first time. The atmosphere at our reunions is special indeed and very up-beat. Respect for all is of the highest order with lots of laughter, hand shaking, hugging, story telling, a few tall tales and yes, a little sadness and pride as we remember our shipmates who paid the highest price.
The reunion hotel, Red Lion Hanalei, is outstanding! Its tropical theme is very lush with gardens, waterfalls, ponds of KOI fish and a very friendly and attentive staff. It has several wonderful restaurants and lounges, a Sushi bar; heated pool and spa, in house massage facility and is adjacent to River walk golf course, a 27-hole championship course.
San Diego has something for everyone. The San Diego Zoo, Historic Old Town, Sea World, unlimited shopping, the waterfront, beaches. Tours of every kind including the carrier USS Midway located on Harbor drive. If you have not been to San Diego for a few years you are going to be surprised. It has become a city of beauty and is very military and patriotic orientated.
Some of the high lights of our reunion schedule will include:
Thursday, at Noon, the VO-67 hospitality room opens, and that evening, the VO-67 Association will present for the attending member's enjoyment the famous Hanalei "Chocolate Volcano" at the pool and hospitality room. Lots of chocolate cascading down a chocolate fountain served with fresh pineapple, honeydew, cantaloupe, strawberries, brownies, waffles and marshmallows for dipping. Lots of snacks and refreshments will be available in the well-known VO-67 hospitality room.
Friday, a bus tour aboard the USS Milius, DDG- 69, named after one of our shipmates, Captain Paul Milius. We will be presenting the ship and crew a custom aircraft model of an OP-2E, MR-7, in a special shipboard ceremony. If you have never been aboard the USS Milius this is a not to be missed event.
Saturday morning, the VO-67 Association business meeting will be held. Coffee and rolls will be available as we discuss Association business and elect new Association officers for the next two years. That evening, during the reunion banquet, several awards will be presented to many of our shipmates and several surprises are in store for everyone. Several special guest speakers will be on hand. Hear the latest news on the OP-2E replica. The winners of the VO-67 Association scholarships for 2003-4 will be announced at the banquet. The skipper of USS Milius and several of the ships crew will be our guests. The skipper is scheduled to say a few words during the banquet. We will once again pay our respects for lost shipmates in the "Tolling of the Bell" ceremony. Lots of new Squadron memorabilia will be available such as hats, shirts, pins, and patches. The banquet buffet is mouth watering. It will include three main entrees beef, chicken and fish. Salad, fresh vegetables, oven roasted potatoes, rolls, Hawaiian desserts and more. Our famous and beloved banquet MC, Don Sehorn will once again preside over a great fun filled evening.
I would like to impress upon you that Thursday June 30, 2005, is the official opening day so make your vacation plans accordingly. The registration fee includes: Banquet meal, name tag with imprinted lanyard, USS Milius tour, and one reunion hat.
